Osoto Gari - Judo Throw
The Osoto Gari has to be my favorite judo throw. It seems like a pretty simple technique but it can be rather effective. After blocking the atack from an enemy, step through with the left foot. You must then bring your right leg through and up. This is before you swing back with your leg to sweep away attacker. You must also use your right hand to push his head and move him off balance. This throw is very good for my body type. Because I am not very built and have a small frame, it would be harder for me to throw someone who is bigger and more built than I am. This throw allows me to be just as effective in my defense without having to lift my opponent. I would simply have to off balance my opponent, sweep, and throw. After using the osoto gari to throw an opponent, it is very easy to execute a pin. Pins like kesa-gatame are very effective when coupled with osoto gari. Used when a person is on their back, kese-gatame is a very effective pin. With one arm around the neck and another wround the torso, this pin does a good job of immobalizing the opponent. The osoto gari, though simple when seen, is a very complex and effective judo throw that seems to suit me quite well.
